Loyalties Part 2 * 2003-03-01 9:29 p.m.
POOF Wonderous years have slipped by. Now, back to the matter why am I not in the JC lying in Dover road? Funny. you could ask that to over a hundred ( or even more) of ACSians nestled in other JCs in this city state. I dare say into would be due to our O level results. It would be uncommon for one with six points or 7/8/9 A1s to choose ACJC as their first choice.Really? During open day I was talking to an AC guy who got 11A1s for his prelims( how don't ask) His dream JC was hoever ACJC. This may seem an unwise decision, but many of the 53 top scoring boys from my batch still went to ACJC. in fact, I beleive 80% of ACS(I)students went over to their affiliated JC. Why am I different? Why are others different? many factors, like cahnge of environment, beterr teachers elsewhere, location and so on affect our choice. But the bottom line, are we not loyal to ACS? to a school that fostered us for four years? It would be different for other sec schools in singapore, save RI and others who have affiliated JCs. An SCGS girl or a CHIJ girl would have no other restricitions governing her choice save her results. But for ACS boys there lies an unexplainable pull to draw you back to your friendly environment where you wear the nave blue pants and shiny badge every day. Its not like an RI boy going to VJC or HCJC. something drws us to ACS. Still, our dreams and actions are our own. Being in other JCs does not make us any less ACSian. many have chosen this path too and still love ACS. It just your choice, but I dare say one would never gforget the vision on an ACSian to rise to be a scholar, an officer and a gentleman. So, there lies my loyalty. Being in NJC doesn't tear any loyalty apart. An Indian scholar asked me the other day, where do you loyalties lie ACS or NJC? ACS i answered. But does that affect my stay in NJC. i believe that one can be loyal to any school at all. a Few of my AC friends are in NJ's student council, yet I believe that they would still reminisce about our good old days in that campus in dover road. Its nostalgic, to remember the, fun the pain we all shared, to still remember the time our rugby coach shouted " Cheer boys! It doesnt matter if your voices break the tiles of the Supreme Court! There are RI boys in the government!" to the time when our head prefect unravelled sheets of blank paper for his farewell speech(Yes Jerald, I still remember that) and most of all it gives me and any ACSian the pleasure to sing "God save our land and heaven bless our ACS forever". PS all comments are entirely my own. Recollections may be exaggerated but mean no harm. No offense to any one at all .
