Confluence 2007 * 2007-07-21 8:41 p.m. Very short entry here because I want to start writing big articles. Went for Confluence 2007, some effort by students (Singaporean Students) to bring overseas and local Singaporean students together. I gathered pretty alright information (pamphlets and the like) fro the careers seminar, and got intercepted by a nice man from an organization that I cannot mentioned out loud on this site. It’s a very attractive job though. Lunch was average in my opinion. The afternoon was spent listening to Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Singapore Manpower Minister and second Minister for defence delivering his speech on the topic (which I think is not phrased correctly) “Globalisation-Can Singapore endure?”. His approach was mostly, if not all, on economic globalisation, which is alright, but not covering the issue collectively. Q&A time was also just ok, typical questions and well, typical answers. I should have asked something, given that Anchit and Alex Yeo (my debate seniors in NJC) said that it was a tradition for debaters to ask questions in such conferences. I actually wanted to ask him about Singapore’s position on aid to Third World countries but decided against it. Nicholas asked him something about Singapore’s relationship with ASEAN versus China and another student asked him whether, given the facts now, whether it was right for Singapore to have voted for the invasion of Iraq. Ok, so after all the talk, Chih Hung, asked, (or politely requested), that I be one of the students to approach Dr. Ng in the foyer area later. So yes, a group of us from a range of universities did so. The conversation well was very politically correct in terms of phrasing, but really no harm was meant. I mean it’s not all the time you get to meet a government minister. Oh, I think my picture was taken so I may be in tommorow’s papers or tonight’s news. Oh yes, meant a couple of old faces—Eik Feng, Jin Yang and Jerald (old ACS friends) and Nicholas and Dilane. Networked a bit. Ok, from now on, I will introduce to you my favourite entries on this site. So go to the “Older entries” link and the list of entries will be there. Those with an asterisk (*) behind the title are my favourite entries—worth ones to read and comment more on. This will include the 2003 entries that I archived. Right.
