North West CDC Debates and thoughts *

2007-08-25 8:59 p.m.

How should I have spent my Saturday morning, since I’ve been waking up so early for work every week day? Ok, for this Saturday, I made my way to West Spring Secondary School to help adjudicate the North West CDC debating Championships. It was a last minute sort of arrangement really, and even Wee Jian mentioned, they were quite in need of adjudicators.. Having not really been debating WSDC style for a while, I was certainly comfortable with him being the chief adjudicator for both debates.

I’ll keep it short here since adjudicators are suppose to be professionals and not actually comment on the teams they’ve seen. The motion for both sessions was “THBT the era for school uniforms is over.” Like, oh what a motion. The morning debate was a rather okay debate, some ok clashes, some acceptable flaws. Wee Jian told me afterwards I entered too high a scored for one and that sort of grade was reserved only for the finals. Oh ok. I’ve been too used to a certain form of debating for too long. In between, got to meet some NUS debaters (yeah, Chi Hoong was there too). Second round was a little different from the first. My scores were thus different. Oh well, good experience. Much thanks to the Debate Association (Singapore).

Off topic, the musical King and I is ending soon (tomorrow, 26 August in fact). And I haven’t bought a ticket for it. Oh well, till next time I guess. There’s still other’s like Swan Lake or the movie musical Hairspray. Anyone interested?

On another topic, still not sure whether I’ll post the big entry that I said I will posting over here. Personal reasons. Still email me if you’re interested to find out about it.

August will end next week. My internship will too. That leaves a few more weeks before I head off to dear old Brum. With Chih Hung off in Michigan and Nigel back in Duke, and Claire heading back soon, it’s my turn next. It’s a cycle, I guess. Whether or not it will continue, God only knows.
