UNA meeting: Marvellous time * 2007-10-06 7:11 p.m. I just love UNA Birmingham, chief reason is that you really get to mix with a whole range of people of different backgrounds. Today, the four committee members had a great get together at Marek’s place at Newman House (which I exclaimed looked like a Bed and Breakfast) for cups of Turkish Tea/Green Tea and for the other three, Shisha smoking. It’s amazing, Marek can speak English, Polish, Russian and Spanish; Shab is fluent in Portuguese, a bit of Spanish, three Indian dialects and English while Jonathan can converse in Hebrew, Portuguese and Spanish. And I’m like the supposed German and Chinese speaking person who had a “communications break down” in Berlin (even after 3 weeks in Frankenberg) and well, let’s not even talk about Chinese. Oh dear. But it was fun at Marek’s. He has a great selection of Simon & Garfunkel songs, which Jonathan recognized. When someone knows and loves Simon and Garfunkel, you there’s something magical there. I also fell in love with Marek’s books and even joked that I wanted to buy up his bookshelf—really he has a dream collection in my view. This is really the kind of meetings that I like, seriousness mixed with laughter and fun. Ok, another short entry.
