Change happens all the time, and naturally you would want some things to stay the same. I’m not the stick in the mud conservative, yet physical and material entities change sometimes far too fast.

Ok, whatever, you would say. However, to arrive back and find places altered physically, to find how far ahead people have moved and to find society at a level that it should not exactly be, make you wonder what went wrong between then and now. The circle of course can be turned towards the more desirable point. It depends of who is able to effect the change.

My updates on certain areas of change came with a meeting of a old (but not too old) guide and educator of mine, one who has not lost touch with individuals whom he shaped. In fact, I should say he has forged pretty strong links with a battalion size group, a “battalion” which has shone well. As the structure goes, several battalions form a brigade or regiment, and there is a head in of the group. Naturally there deputies in the structure of a brigade/regiment, but the leader is in overall command. Of course, he (or she) is the final decision maker, and that has complications.

So “The Educator” ran through the life of the Brigade/Regiment, which I left but still have a place of it in my mind. He had constructive views on what has occurred, what should have occurred and what will occur. He touched on the last “battalion” he guided (but no lead) and how the troops forged themselves well. It’s the environment which shapes the individual and the individual who shapes the environment—structure and agency (POLSIS students should know what I mean). For the brigade, well it has been a well known brigade with more than a hundred years of years of rich history, preparing “warriors” for greater battles. The Educator naturally was an assistant in the “warrior” training, meeting the brigade commander often. Clashes are bound to occur and they did, but the brigade moved along, though not with some assistants, who held opinions in contrast to some recent brigade rules and methods.

The meeting with The Educator was short, but in painting a whole new picture of a brigade once thought to be resting at a certain level. This is of course, not to say that cracks are forming in the unit or that the unit in falling down. What lies ahead is how the members of the different battalion respond to the change.
