2008 Review: The Road Goes On * 2008-12-31 10:34 a.m. Back with one small annual summary: January 2008: Back into the grind of work and non-work. The latter meaning Campaigns stuff for UNA, where the big dreams were turning into minute hopes. February 2008: The small hopes were dashed into impossible reality much due to administrative barriers. Just as well. That month also meant increasing speed for politics assignments March 2008: a flurry of emails for another non-work activity—internships. Also a hailstorm of words submitted to the esteemed POLSIS department with prayers for constructive results April 2008: Springtime for Hitler and Germany. No, no big stage stuff. Just another round of fighting, academic related. May 2008: The usual time of the year. It meant for the first time finding comfortable nooks and crannies in a place supposedly call a library. It also meant getting surprise greetings from a very beautiful girl and receiving acerbic comments from a certain stuck up person. June 2008: Vale Festival again and again. Time spent showing off sunglasses. Time also spent learning about EU Funding. July 2008: Became an “expert” on the geography on the West Midlands. Expert with Birmingham transportation. Expert in living (really). August 2008: Re-charging in an island GMT+8 hours away. Dissertation research still possible even in another library. Wow. September 2008: Broke my own promise and met up with a girl and then three other girls who hailed from the land of grey uniforms. Oh well, no harm was done. Back in Brum. Then to Austria where “Hurry boy she’s waiting there for you” was heard. In a city cluttered with museums and architecture, the most memorable part was visiting the shabby UN HQ and sampling Vienna Schnitzel. October 2008: New academia, especially with IPE. Already many miles from “home”, I was transported to the mystic world of “offshore” and tried hard to sail towards solid land. At the same time, fighting took place elsewhere between a grumpy old man and a well educated youngster which a magical charm. In essence, Gene Hackam and Denzel Washington playing out “Crimson Tide” in the real world.. oh, someone added me of facebook. I don’t undertand why Singaporeans want to return home for Christmas. It’s much much better to have a wintry Christmas. November 2008: Dissertation mining and refining. The world supposedly would be a safer place with the youngster in power. However, change was not to be. Still sailing between onshore and offshore. Watched PMQs seriously for the first time, despite the two sides making it less serious. Quote of the month: “This is no time for a novice”, Cameron, David. December 2008: “When it comes to party leadership, I happened to be having a look at the right hon. Gentleman's website, and I suggest that other hon. Members look at it. On williamhague.org.uk, it just says: Dissertation mining, refining and warming self against the non-snowy weather of Brum. Missed two carol services but made the trip to the German Market.
